چکیده

Parathyroid hormone (PTH) is a peptide hormone that is the primary regulator of calcium concentrations in the bloodstream. PTH is released in response to a variety of signals, most importantly in response to low serum calcium concentrations. As a true hormone, it travels through the bloodstream to target tissues, primarily in the bone and kidney, where it has a variety of effects that serve to increase serum calcium, thus providing a correction for the original stimulus for release. PTHserves as an important regulator of bone turnover and indifferent settings canhave either anabolic or catabolic effects in bone. Although PTH can mobilize phosphorus and calcium in bone, it also increases phosphate excretion, resulting in a net lowering of phosphate concentrations in the bloodstream. Given its central role in this important homeostatic process, a number of disorders are caused by abnormalities of PTH function.

Parathyroid Hormone-Related Peptide and Vitamin D in Phosphocalcic Metabolism for Dromedary Camel

In mammals, phosphocalcic and bone metabolisms are mainly regulated by parathyroid hormone, parathyroid hormone-related peptide (PTHrP) and 1α,25-dihydroxyvitamin D or calcitriol. In camels, circulating levels of calcitriol are 10 times higher than those determined in other ruminants and further increase during early lactation. Calcitriol and parathyroid-related peptide stimulate intestinal abs...

Feasibility of portable gamma camera imaging in intraoperative radioguided parathyroid adenoma identification

Novel surgical applications include radioguided procedures in parathyroidectomy operations. In order to investigate the feasibility of usage of the portable gamma camera in parathyroidectomy operations; intraoperative radioguided parathyroidectomy operation was performed in three hyperparathyroidism patients with inconclusive preoperative parathyroid scintigraphy results. Intraoperative portabl...

Atypical non-[99mTc]Tc-MIBI avid parathyroid adenoma with a sternal brown tumor, mimicking ectopic parathyroid adenoma in planar and SPECT images: Importance of SPECT/CT acquisition

Primary hyperparathyroidism (pHPT) is defined by the excess level of parathyroid hormone (PTH). Parathyroid adenoma is responsible for about 80% of all pHPT. Parathyroid adenoma with cystic feature and atypical pathology is recognized as a rare entity. Technetium-99m methoxy isobutyl isonitrile ([99mTc]Tc-MIBI) scintigraphy has favorable detection rate for ectopic gland as well as th...

Management of endocrine disorders in pregnancy Part I--thyroid and parathyroid disease.

In these reviews we discuss the management of endocrine disorders, with the exception of diabetes mellitus, as they occur in pregnancy. Although taking account of the literature, so far as it is possible we give our own opinions as to optimal management and, where appropriate, provide illustrative case reports. Part I deals with disorders of the thyroid and parathyroid glands, Part II with diso...

Mitochondrial DNA mutations in oxyphilic and chief cell parathyroid adenomas

BACKGROUND The potential pathogenetic significance of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) mutations in tumorigenesis is controversial. We hypothesized that benign tumorigenesis of a slowly replicating tissue like the human parathyroid might constitute an especially fertile ground on which a selective advantage conferred by mtDNA mutation could be manifested and might contribute to the oxyphilic phenotype...

Huge Parathyroid Adenoma with Dysphagia Presentation; A Case Report from Southern Iran

AbstractParathyroid adenoma is a benign tumor of the parathyroid glands. The cause of most parathyroid adenomas is unknown. Parathyroid adenoma increases the secretion of parathyroid hormone and results in primary hyperparathyroidism. High amounts of parathyroid hormone in the blood cause the imbalance of calcium, which leads to various complications such as kidney stones, depression, lethargy,...
